Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spots.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. However, they are prone to punctures so be prepared with an repair kit.

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider variety of terrain, while also looking stylish and easy to push.

The larger the wheels are the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with an infant and a 3 wheel stroller brands-year-old child and found it extremely robust. It handled grass, cobbles and rough pavements, aswell as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was sturdy to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. You will want it to be large enough for your child's comfort and you will also require it to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of reclining completely, while others only allow for an adult facing one.

Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is also useful if you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many 3 Wheeled pushchair wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are prone to punctures, and you'll need to have an repair kit and spare inner tubes on hand.

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be problematic if you intend to use it as a jogger or you need to get through doorways that are narrow while on the move. Luckily, most models have compact folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

One of the main benefits of a three-wheel buggy is that it is much more maneuverable especially with a child in tow. They are designed so that the front wheels rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for difficult terrain like cobblestones, parks as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheeler buggies wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground and the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also impressed with the way it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only downside of this amazing maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces - something to keep in mind if you live in a urban area. If this is an issue then a 4-wheel buggy may be better for you.
