Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate proficiency who gave responses to MQs and DCTs. They were also asked to think about their evaluations and refusal performance in RIs. The results indicated that the CLKs frequently chose to resist native Korean pragmatic norms, and their decisions were influenced by four major factors that included their personalities, their multilingual identities, their ongoing lives, and their relational advantages. These findings have implications for L2 Korean assessment and teaching.

Then, the responses were compared with their linguistic performance in DCTs to determine if they were a reflection of pragmatic resistance or not. It was found that CLKs frequently resorted to the use of euphemistic phrases such as "sorry" and "thank you." These results suggest that native speakers' pragmatic norms are not the default preference for Korean learners. They may still be useful for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should consider reassessing the validity of these tests in different cultural contexts and specific situations. This will enable them to better know how different cultures can affect the pragmatic behavior of students in the classroom and beyond.
