How to Replace an replacement audi a3 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.
If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, key when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is running out cost of audi key replacement gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite Ohms.

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28).
