How to Replace an audi remote key G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two pins for the connector and they serve different purposes but the best method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, audi Car key case, king-wifi.win, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know both the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.
Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easy to find, especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be an option.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi keys replacement because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car Key cover audi to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should observe around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This part is common across the audi keys replacement 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find them in wrecking yards.
