How to Replace an audi replacement key cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially in the case of a Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for Audi a1 key replacement many problems in your vehicle. If this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is a common feature across the audi key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
