Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link or by phone). Your clinician will discuss the different options for medication available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you the option of titrating your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks, and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to have to titrate up to three different medicines before you find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. Parents must take part in this process of titration, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour, so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You must attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. However, in some cases, it may be possible for an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

We will then go over treatment options and decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects that you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration consultations is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any relationship issues you might be experiencing or other mental health issues you might be experiencing. We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, talk to your GP prior to booking your private appointment. Certain providers have different guidelines regarding whether they require the submission of a GP letter. We also advise to check if your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement that means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.

Medication
